Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to offer more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units this mop and robot vacuum cleaners best vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score 100% in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device which could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and look better. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it will cost you more and produce more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.
If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you have a large furniture. Also the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that is washable.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to organize an automatic vacuum cleaner spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
