The 10 Scariest Things About Item Upgrading
Path of Exile Item Upgrading
Item upgrading allows players to enhance their weapons and gear with new affixes, boosting its base stats or providing additional benefits. To upgrade items, the player must have the item in their inventory and access the kiln.
Usually items with weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base while items with strong bases such as Eth titans don't change much in their stats after being upgraded.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors trinkets, weapons and gathering tools. They can be used as an attribute bonus or extra effect, while the equipment is being used. They can be bought from vendors, gathered in loot, dropped by enemies or received as rewards from missions or chests. Certain upgrades also have cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level before you can upgrade.
To upgrade an armor, weapon or other item in the game, the player will have to select it and click the Upgrade button in the toolbar. This will display a preview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected upgrade stats will be as well as the required element or material required to complete the upgrade.
There are three kinds: universal upgrades (which include gems), prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, like gems, can be placed on any type of equipment. They offer a lower bonus than upgrade components that have a specific type restriction. Infusions are gems that can only be used in legendary and ascended equipment. They provide the same benefits as jewels, however they cannot be used in other equipment. Suffix upgrades, which can be placed in gathering tools, will add their names to the end of the name of the item they are attached to, for instance adding the word Glyph to the Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor would transform it into a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.
If a player upgrades a gathering tool, and replaces glyphs with another glyph, the old one will be returned to their inventory. If you replace another upgrade component with a glyph, it will be destroyed, except for the inscriptions that can be swapped freely.
Leveling
The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some significant differences from earlier versions. Gear is now categorised in tracks and each item is able to be upgraded so many times before it is "leveled out." The costs for upgrading increase with each level, however the materials required do not. This allows players to focus their efforts on a specific few items and maximize the impact of those items, instead of spreading the cost of upgrades across several pieces.
If an item is completed and is leveled out, it will be eligible for a new set of upgrade components, and an increase in the probability that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is known as Artisan's Energy. It will reset to 0 if an upgrade fails or increases when the upgrade succeeds.
Once a piece of gear is upgraded to its maximum level it is able to receive affixes that will enhance its capabilities. The number of affixes available is contingent on the item's base. For instance the rare or exclusive weapon with a base that is normal will have only two affixes for it, whereas legendary armors can have up to eight affixes available for it.
Each upgrade will require a specific amount of Flightstones or Crests, based on whether the item is at its current level and what slot it is in. Weapons usually require more Flightstones than other equipment.
If an item fails to reach its max level, the NPC will give players the option to transfer it to another character and then re-infuse it with a different set of upgrades. This process takes up to two hours and will cost the same amount of material but will have lower chances of success.
Engineers will utilize a level to compare the height of the building with a known point, like a benchmark. This method is known as a "level-loop." It involves taking readings with the level, backsighting rod and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. This method helps ensure that buildings are built to a high level of accuracy and safety.

This can be accomplished through the menu for items or by clicking the Reroll button on an upgraded item. Rerolling items can be expensive and should be done sparingly.
Reroll tokens are obtained by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can be used to upgrade either the original item or another similar item. Recyclable items come with an indicator of the level which shows how much of the upgrade gauge has been filled. The cost and rarity of upgrading an item determines the amount of level that has been filled.
In the past, some upgrade items were affixed with priority that made them easier to roll for than other. This meant that you'd receive the stats most important to your build more frequently than others. This included stats like armor's total armour, thorns and diminished duration due to control or the weapon's bonus attack speed and crit strike chance.
This changed with the recent patch. Priority affixes have been removed and all upgrades will have the same chances of rolling for every stat. This can be either good or bad, depending on what you're looking for and want from your equipment.
Each upgraded item may also be equipped with a special fixed-value, fixed-value benefit that increases its strength by a certain percentage. These bonuses are added to the regular affixes. The more you upgrade a product, the better your chance of obtaining an exclusive bonus.
The game also includes a number of sets, which grant a set bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are equipped on an item. This is an excellent method to add a lot of power to a specific character without spending lots of money.
Many players prefer to reroll their equipment and weapons, especially in the beginning of the game. Rerolling is a method to create a more powerful character faster, allowing players to advance in the game and reach higher tiers.

This will result in a significant improvement in their performance. The armor that has a new appearance will benefit from this upgrade as its defense value will increase as it goes from purple to gold.
