Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and damage from PvE.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give an extra stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading with other players, or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to devices that have slots. The item must be at least upgraded to a blue level before a component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and Ascended equipment, as well as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging gear from the ascended, or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may be prefixed or a suffix that alters the name of the equipment with which it is applied (for instancethe 'Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without restrictions. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and rebuilt by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

Each Glyph has a certain range of values can enhance a stat by, and the value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Each level of an item requires a different number of components and the costs for upgrading increase as the item gets advanced in level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or obtained from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe completed will result in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used for leveling up an item. When enough points have been earned, you will be eligible to claim the upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When a player upgrades an item it is replaced with a new item of the same kind. This means that the same armor piece will get the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item will come with a bonus of its own. This can be a downside since the item may become more expensive even if you don't require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough tokens to do this. This causes the item to be exchanged for a new one, with the level 1 base, and a different set of bonus bonuses. This is useful for certain items, but it shouldn't be done regularly, as it can use up many resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled many times which increases their value and allows the player to modify their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants an increase in power if the player continuously enters or exits the water. It can be upgraded multiple times, each time increasing the maximum roll by a factor of 10. Requirements

Whenever an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied in order from the lowest to the highest. Each upgrade of equipment will require different amounts of ingredients for upgrading, in addition to the costs mentioned above.
