New generation journalists are in the forefront of efforts to improve local news coverage, and help to mitigate the threat to democracy. Our goal is to obtain unprecedented resources to enhance proven solutions as well as eradicating long-standing inequities within the coverage of journalism and its practice.




Students and recent graduates recently unveiled Austin Harvest, the Austin Harvest produce market at its permanent location earlier this week, providing the arts and a sense of community to an area that was once known for its gun violence. KBEZ's Jackie Kostek visited to speak to the founders of the market who outlined their mission as not just serving food, but as creating an environment that is more welcoming as one of their goals.




Illinois boasts some of the strictest gun laws in the country, yet smuggled firearms from other states remain an enigma to the residents and their safety. We look into this issue more deeply as well as efforts that law enforcement agencies are making to stop the illegal trafficking of firearms.
